Elvis Costello, nee Declan Patrick MacManus, Irish boy from Liverpool in 1954. First recording in 1974 with jazz musician father doing lemonade commercial. Took name to honor father's stage name, Day Costello. Winner of numerous awards, incredibly eclectic career, many collaborations. Outspoken, banned from SNL for 12 years for playing song banned by network, declined to play Israeli concert in protest of Israel's treatment of Palestinians, contributor to and on Board of Jazz Foundation of America,to save homes and lives of elderly blues and jazz musicians.
Little Triggers, on 1978 album “This Year's Model, “a seething slow-dance buried in an album of defiant punk rock; the sounds of love's death from 1,000 paper cuts” (Trunkworthy). According to Trunkworthy, you need to have attained a certain level of maturity and experience in the field of relationships to understand the references Elvis is making here. A vegetarian and an over-the-top football fan (in the US we call it soccer), he is presently married to 3rd wife Diana Krall, pianist/singer, with whom he has twin sons. Two earlier marriages yielded another son and a somewhat complicated transition period. All in all, Elvis is accomplished, recognized and a major player in the modern music scene.
